Lancashire’s restaurants pubs and businesses given one and two-star food hygiene ratings in the last week

In the past week, Lancashire has seen four different food establishments receiving a one-star food hygiene rating. Fortunately, none of them received the dreaded zero-star rating.

These ratings were assigned after diligent inspections carried out by council food safety officers in our local towns.  That is Carnforth, Accrington, and Halsall, near Ormskirk. The primary aim of these inspections is to inform the public, empowering them to make more informed choices when it comes to dining out or purchasing food.

These inspections took place earlier this year, spanning from September to October, and their results were made public just recently. Businesses that receive low ratings are tasked with making immediate and substantial improvements to their hygiene standards. Local authorities provide various enforcement measures and guidance to ensure these necessary enhancements are implemented.

A one-star rating indicates a significant need for improvement, while a two-star rating signifies that some improvements are required. The food safety officer also communicates the timeline for these improvements, which varies depending on the specific issues at hand. To earn the highest rating, businesses must excel in all three critical elements of food safety.
